The conflict between Georgia and Russia erupted in 2008 when Georgia launched an assault to retake South Ossetia, an enclave within Georgia controlled by pro-Russian separatists. It led to a massive counter-offensive, with Russia moving deeper into Georgia. Tens of thousands of people have been forced to flee Russian attacks. This building – a student residence during Soviet times – was used as a shelter in Tblisi, the Georgian capital. (bbc) / TBILISI (2010)
